DAY 1

Water Chemistry and Pre-Treatment for Demineralization

  • Welcome and introduction
  • Pre-test
  • Fundamental water chemistry: Dissolved solids, conductivity, alkalinity, and hardness
  • The necessity of Demineralization and purity requirements for industrial applications
  • Review of pre-treatment technologies: Coagulation, flocculation, and filtration
  • Scaling and fouling assessment (Langelier Index, Modified Fouling Index)
  • Selecting appropriate corrosion inhibitors and anti-scalants

 

DAY 2

Reverse Osmosis (RO) Technology

  • Principles of Reverse Osmosis and mass transfer across semi-permeable membranes
  • RO membrane types (cellulose acetate, polyamide) and element configuration
  • RO system design: Staging, recovery rates, and flux optimization
  • Troubleshooting RO performance: Managing pressure, flow, and salt rejection issues
  • Chemical cleaning procedures for fouled membranes (acidic and alkaline)

 

DAY 3

Ion Exchange (IX) Demineralization

  • Introduction to Ion Exchange resins: Strong and weak acid/base resins
  • IX system configuration: Two-bed demineralizers and mixed-bed polishers
  • Principles and procedures for IX resin Regeneration cycles
  • Calculating resin capacity, throughput, and optimizing run length
  • Handling, storage, and replacement of ion exchange resins

 

DAY 4

Advanced Polishing and Ultra-Pure Water (UPW) Systems

  • In-depth study of Mixed-Bed Ion Exchangers for final polishing
  • The principles and operational advantages of Electrodeionization (EDI) technology
  • Implementing Ultrafiltration (UF) and Nanofiltration (NF) for particle and TOC removal
  • Final sterilization methods: UV disinfection and ozonation
  • Critical monitoring points for Ultra-Pure Water (UPW) systems (silica, sodium, resistivity)

 

DAY 5

System Optimization and Compliance

  • Strategies for maximizing water recovery and reducing chemical waste
