DAY 1

Fundamentals of Industrial Instrumentation and Measurement

  • Understand the purpose and importance of industrial instrumentation in industrial operations. 
  • Understand measurement concepts, terminology, accuracy, precision, repeatability, and measurement errors. 
  • Understand pressure, temperature, flow, level, and analytical measurements. 
  • Understand basic process control concepts and the operation of control loops. 
  • Recognize the role of instrumentation in process monitoring and control. 
  • Understand the basic functions of DCS, PLCs, and SCADA systems. 
  • Understand analog and digital signals and common industrial signal standards. 
  • Recognize major industrial communication protocols and their applications. 
  • Read basic P&IDs, instrument tags, symbols, and loop diagrams. 
  • Understand essential instrumentation safety practices and hazardous-area requirements.

 

DAY 2

Process Measurement Instruments and Applications

  • Understand the principles and practical applications of industrial process measurement. 
  • Recognize common pressure measurement technologies, instruments, and applications. 
  • Understand temperature measurement using thermocouples, RTDs, and other technologies. 
  • Understand major flow measurement technologies and their industrial applications. 
  • Understand level measurement methods and the selection of appropriate technologies. 
  • Recognize common analytical measurement applications including pH, conductivity, and gas analysis. 
  • Understand instrument selection based on process conditions and measurement requirements. 
  • Recognize common installation considerations and limitations affecting measurement performance. 
  • Relate measurement technologies to practical industrial operating conditions. 
  • Apply instrumentation knowledge to improve process monitoring and measurement reliability.

 

DAY 3

Instrument Operation, Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Control Applications

  • Understand control valves, actuators, positioners, and final control elements. 
  • Understand basic control loop operation, feedback, feedforward, and PID principles. 
  • Understand calibration principles, zero and span adjustments, verification, and documentation. 
  • Apply systematic approaches to instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. 
  • Identify common instrument failures and distinguish process problems from instrument problems. 
  • Troubleshoot common pressure, temperature, flow, level, signal, and control valve issues. 
  • Understand smart instruments, digital diagnostics, wireless instrumentation, and IIoT. 
  • Recognize the role of remote monitoring, predictive analytics, asset management, and cybersecurity. 
  • Apply instrumentation principles to oil and gas, power, water, chemical, and petrochemical applications. 
  • Identify practical ways to improve process reliability, safety, and performance through effective instrumentation.
